Electrical Installation in Class 1 Hazardous Areas – February 26, 2025 Meeting Recording
A Class 1 Hazardous Area is any place where flammable gases, vapors, or liquids could create an explosion if there’s a spark or too much heat. Think of places like oil refineries, gas stations, or manufacturing plants that use chemicals.
Since regular electrical equipment could cause a fire in these environments, special safety measures are needed, such as:
- Explosion-proof enclosures that contain any sparks.
- Sealed wiring to prevent flammable gases from reaching electrical parts.
- Intrinsically safe systems that use low-energy circuits to eliminate the risk of ignition.
